There are so many quotes and books and images to choose from when you search the internet about the power of a team. There are books of quotes written about teamwork and you’ve heard them all before. Still, I’d like to write about teamwork because very few things can move a project forward, can make a goal achievable, can change a project spiraling out of control like a motivated and cohesive team. Teamwork is a much underestimated word. Yet there are no successful projects without having a great team.

The project manager may take the hit when a team fails but no project manager can begin to succeed without being a part of that motivated and cohesive team. It’s so easy to say but not so easy to bring about. When there are so many moving pieces, some are big like the project plan. Some pieces are small, like the calendar of a team member. All team members have a role, and they need to have clear instructions regarding that role. They also have tools that need to be tried and true and then explained clearly how they will support the team member in their role on the project. If any one of these pieces is out of place, out of sync, if communication is misaligned, the whole project can come to a screeching halt. You need to have a strong plan upfront that lays out all the details. All the pieces large and small need to be thoroughly considered, exercised and relevant. Solid project management helps a team be great.

Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together…is success. – Henry Ford

I have been lucky enough to be on a stellar team. With the right planning and communication, it runs like clockwork–like a Rolex–smooth, clean, concise and timely. What a rush! What an honor! Go team! How are your teams running? How are your project processes contributing to your teams? Solarity can help your team (and projects) run like clockwork…
